LAUSD GATE Parent Newsletter – Spring 2025 Edition

Dear GATE Families,

As we move into the Spring 2025 semester, we are excited to share new updates, upcoming events, and resources that will continue to support your child's growth in the LAUSD Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program. Our team remains dedicated to fostering an environment that challenges and nurtures the academic potential of gifted learners across the district.

GATE Program Highlights

The LAUSD GATE program continues to offer enriching educational opportunities designed for students who show high potential in various academic and creative fields. Here’s an overview of the different program offerings:

  • Resident School GATE Programs: Continued differentiated instruction to meet the needs of gifted students within their regular school settings.

  • Schools for Advanced Studies (SAS): These specialized programs focus on advanced learning and offer an accelerated curriculum.

  • Summer Enrichment Programs: Registration will be open soon for the GATE Summer Academy, offering academic enrichment and creative arts programs.

Important Dates & Events

  • GATE Summer Academy: Registration opens on March 15, 2025, for the summer program, which provides both academic and arts-focused enrichment courses.

  • Parent Information Session: Understanding GATE Services: April 10, 2025 – Join us for a Zoom meeting to learn more about GATE services, enrichment opportunities, and how to best support your gifted learner (lausd.org/gate).

  • GATE Student Enrichment Fair: May 1, 2025 – This event will showcase a variety of summer enrichment programs, including those that focus on STEM, the arts, and leadership development. It’s a great opportunity for students to explore new learning experiences.

 Parent & Family Resources

  • GATE Parent/Family Webinars: The district will continue offering monthly webinars, with upcoming topics like:

    • Supporting Social-Emotional Development of Gifted Learners: March 20, 2025

  • Parent Resources: Did you know that there are many resources available on the GATE website, including links to workshops, research on gifted education, and tips for advocating for your child? Visit lausd.org/gate for up-to-date information.

Stay Connected & Get Involved

It’s important for parents to stay involved in their child's educational journey. Here are some ways you can stay connected to the GATE community:

  • Monthly GATE Parent Meetings: These virtual meetings allow parents to connect with district officials and other parents, ask questions, and discuss the latest developments in the GATE program. The next meeting is scheduled for April 15, 2025. Join us via Zoom! (lausd.org/gate)

  • Join the GATE Parent Advisory Committee: Get involved in shaping the future of gifted education in LAUSD by participating in the Parent Advisory Committee. Applications will open in May for the 2025–2026 school year.

💡 News and Updates

  • GATE Program Adjustments: Based on feedback from parents and educators, LAUSD is reviewing the structure of GATE services to ensure equitable access and engagement for all students. Proposed updates will be discussed in upcoming parent meetings, with the goal of enhancing both academic and extracurricular opportunities for GATE students.

  • STEM and Arts Integration: LAUSD is expanding opportunities for GATE students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and the arts. We’re excited to share that new partnerships with local museums, universities, and tech companies will create unique hands-on learning experiences for students over the next year. More details will be shared soon!
